Welcome to The University of Pittsburgh Radiation Safety Office web site. The use of radioactive materials and radiation producing machines is governed by federal and state regulations. The mission of our office is to assure the safety of individuals who use sources of ionizing radiation such as x-ray machines, sealed nuclear sources, and radio-labeled chemicals both clinically and in research. We accomplish this by offering training to users, monitoring work places and controlling the receipt and disposal of radioactive material and radiation producing machines. Currently our program encompasses uses at The University of Pittsburgh, UPMC Presbyterian, UPMC Montefiore, Children’s Hospital and Magee Women’s Hospital. This website provides you electronic access to our staff and our safety program including training materials, schedules of training, applications and forms, as well as useful information from other web sites.
