Diagnostic Imaging Medical Physics Residency Program

Welcome to the new, up-and-coming Diagnostic Medical Physics Residency program at the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC!  CAMPEP approval is pending.

We are looking for a determined, self-starting, ambitious resident to guide through our rigorous and comprehensive two-year program.  Upon completion, the resident will be prepared to begin a career position equipped with all the knowledge and skills necessary to properly apply diagnostic and imaging medical physics in a clinical setting be it small or large.

Rotations will include all of the core modalities that are necessary for a clinical diagnostic medical physicist to master as well as unique rotations that will best prepare a resident for a career.  An elective rotation will also be offered to tailor the program to the resident’s interests.

The rotations will include:
  • Orientation
  • Computed Tomography (CT)
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
  • General Radiology and Fluoroscopy
  • Interventional Fluoroscopy and Angiography
  • Women’s Imaging including Mammography
  • Ultrasound
  • Nuclear Medicine and Positron Emission Tomography (PET)
  • Radiation Safety
  • Pediatric Imaging
  • Informatics
  • Electives (Research, Radiation Oncology, Gamma Knife, Exam Prep)

Each rotation will consist of:
  • Shadow time with the modality’s radiologists and technologists
  • Hands on experience and guidance from a physicist who specializes in the field
  • Weekly discussions and presentations on relevant topics
  • An oral examination to best prepare for ABR board certification

Interested applicants should apply to our program through the MedPhys Match. More detailed information regarding our program can be accessed below:
*The “sample offer letter” is currently drafts for ACGME residents but will apply to CAMPEP residents also.
